Origins

Tamil Nadu Foundation, Inc; (TNF) is a charitable organization, devoted to the promotion of social, economic, and educational objectives in Tamil Nadu, India. It is our hope that we can bring together through this medium all those who are concerned about the welfare of Tamil Nadu.

TNF was founded on November 29th, 1974 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA by Dr. R. Palanisamy, Dr. P. G. Periasamy, Dr. P. R. Perumalsamy, and Dr. B. Thyagarajan. Dr. P. G. Periasamy was the first president of TNF and played a key role in the growth of TNF in its formative years.

TNF’s objective is to help promote educational, social and other charitable projects in Tamil Nadu as part of a humble attempt by its members to share their fortunes with less fortunate people. It’s aim and objectives are distinctly different from those of the local cultural organizations. In fact TNF is the only organization in the world that is entirely devoted to the promotion of economic, and social welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu.

What was started as a small attempt by a few individuals to offer their contributions to Tamil Nadu has evolved into a well-developed foundation through the dedication of several members throughout USA.

The TNF was incorporated in the state of Maryland on December 4th, 1975 and was given tax exempt status on June 24th, 1976. We have so far undertaken successfully more than 200 projects in Tamil Nadu. Our life-membership has soared from 66 members in 1985 to almost 500 members presently.

The TNF has achieved remarkable success in the past 29 years. The TNF Technology Center in Chennai was inaugurated on December 22, 1998, by Mayor, Sri. M. K. Stalin. The purpose of the Center is to supervise the execution of projects in Tamil Nadu and to provide students and other community members access to the modern technology of the western world.

The TNF Center is now playing a key role in disseminating computer education to those who are economically depressed. Sri. Ram Thukkaram played a key role in the completion of the TNF Center and served as the Coordinator of the project.
